Dana and I met with Eila’s oncology doctors at Doernbecher Childrens Hospital (DCH) today to discuss her treatment plan. We’ve been anxious for this meeting to learn more about Eila’s next five months.
The doctors are recommending 19 weeks of chemotherapy (and no radiation). That will take us through the end of January 2012. They’ve prescribed two drugs: Actinomycin-D and Vincristine. As I understand it, each drug has been used for several decades, so the effects and effectiveness are well known.
Our first treatment is scheduled for this Thursday. It sounds like Dana or I (or both of us) will be travelling to DCH for each successive Thursday through November 24, 2011. After that, we’ll only have to go up every three weeks.
It’s comforting to now have a plan in place. We don’t know precisely how Eila is going to handle the treatment, and we don’t know exactly what the treatments will be like, but we’re happy to have a better idea what’s in store for the next five months.

Hi Dana and Joel: Just wanted to let you know that Eila and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Please feel free to let me know if you need any help while you travel to OHSU for Eila's treatment. We can pick up Hannikka and have her stay with us - whatever you feel comfortable. Take care!
Hey guys, we've been praying for your family since we found out about Eila a few days ago. It must be so nice to have a plan laid out ahead of you now! We're so thankful the surgery we so well and that she's recovering so well. Wish we were closer to help out!
