Mom's birthday

From July/Aug 2011

Dinner together - this picture would led you to believe it was much more successful than it was (Friday evenings aren't the best time for us to do an activity).

From July/Aug 2011

Playing before bedtime, which came early that night ... so maybe that was a birthday treat.

Grandma & bubbles

From July/Aug 2011

Grandma came over on Sunday with a giant "bubble wand," so we went to the park to test it out.

It was a nice morning for the park; thanks for the bubbles, Grandma.

Slide

From July/Aug 2011

Slides are still Eila's favorite, and she really likes it when we find one she can do all by herself.

I think the fact you have to climb in order to slide might be a big part of it.

Setting a bad example

Here's what can happen when you go to too many birthday parties and have several mylar balloons floating around your house.

Baseball tonight

From July/Aug 2011

Annikka and I went to the Corvallis Knights (a local summer league team, made up of various college players) game tonight to support her love of mascots - in addition to Mack the Knight (above), the San Diego Chicken was here. And boy did she get excited about the Chicken, so much so that she's still lying in bed trying to calm down enough to go to sleep.

From July/Aug 2011

She got this hat and kept telling me that the Chicken now would think that she was "one of his baby chickens" (one of the skits between innings). She seemed honestly convinced of this, probably because of the people who walked us by saying that she was a chicken.

From July/Aug 2011

At the eighth inning, she waited in line to get his autograph.

From July/Aug 2011

I think we'll be talking about the Chicken for a while around here. After seeing her excitement, Daddy wishes he was the one who got to go with tonight.

From July/Aug 2011

This is a fun age! :)

EDIT: Joel here. It's times like these when I can understand why parents take their kids to disney world - something I could never comprehend before parenthood. Annikka was out-of-her-mind bonkers when she came home tonight and could not contain her excitement; she couldn't wait to tell me all of her chicken stories. Seeing your kid on cloud nine is really fun.

First reading lesson

Today, it finally seemed like we had a little break in activity, so I asked Annikka if she would like to start learning to read. She said YES (very excited), so we sat at the computer for her first 2 Funnix lessons.

From July/Aug 2011

We have a long way to go, but she loved it and will be interested in doing more. (Yeah!) We're making a book of all her worksheets, and it'll be fun to look back at them all one day.

Summer fun

From July/Aug 2011

We are enjoying the summer weather here in Oregon, and of course that also means the downtown fountain at the Saturday farmer's market.

From July/Aug 2011

Eila surprises us all the time with how quickly she's willing to dive right into things - she already enjoys playing in the fountain, although only in the small ones. But that's understandable, have you seen how little she still is?

We have also brought out the trikes/cars, although usable space is very limited on our hill. Eila was quick to see if she could ride on the big one.

It works with some help from Mom!

And when Mom has had enough ...

Annikka also likes running through the sprinklers, something that brings back so many summer memories.

And finally, Eila trying to figure out how the water can works. Can she revive the hydrangea?

A few videos

The wobbler stage is pretty cute stuff ... and I love hearing Eila's sweet little voice.

Summer = parks!

July 4th

was a busy day.

We started the day with our "traditional" pancake breakfast with Meredith, Pete, Thurston, Marie, and Grandma Jenny (Pete's mom) - something we've done together since Mere & Pete moved to Oregon. And this year we were joined by Jason, Shannon, Ashlyn, and Avery (my cousin and his family).

From July/Aug 2011

It was a beautiful morning to play in a park.
