Annikka's in Kindergarten!

From Sept/Oct 2012

Today was Annikka's first day of kindergarten, so we explained the tradition of getting your picture taken outside before you leave for school. For these next few weeks, I think one of our biggest challenges will be getting out the door at the right time, and with everything we need. Today we came pretty close, I just had to return home for my computer.

When Joel and I arrived at school with Annikka, she was clearly excited and nervous. After she washed her hands, she was ready for us to leave. Luckily her friend Sarah was there, and they agreed to have their picture taken together by the calendar.

From Sept/Oct 2012

When we picked her up, we asked Annikka how her day was. She wasn't very forthcoming, but here are the things we learned: 1) They read a book about a girl who was naughty, and they all learned a lesson - she did not, however, tell us what the girl did or what the lesson was. 2) They glued sunflower seeds on paper and will cut out petals from yellow paper tomorrow to make their own sunflower. 3) She did not have enough time at lunch to eat her edamame. 4) She liked playing mermaids during recess.

While kindergarten was fun and exciting, I think Annikka was most excited to come home and have Grandpa try out her new face paints.

From Sept/Oct 2012

She requested an angel, which turned out rather nicely considering it was Grandpa's first attempt at face painting. Annikka was happy, and then very disappointed when we explained that she would not be able to wear it to school the next day.

We ended this momentous first day with a frozen yogurt celebration.
