Although surgery started early, it was done pretty quickly. Eila played with Oliver and her new kitten named "Yoko" (thanks, Meredith & Pete) while waiting for the drugs to kick in.

The surgeon was able to place the port in the same location in Eila's chest (something he wasn't sure he'd be able to do), so she won't have a new scar.
We discussed the difficult "wake-up" from Eila's last surgery, so the surgery team adjusted her anesthetic for a much nicer, sleepier recovery - we were all thankful for that.

The one thing that slowed Eila down this morning and let the doctors work with her before surgery was the promise of popsicles later, so she and Joel enjoyed a twin-pop during chemo. Chemo went well, no surprises there.

We'll go back to Doernbecher next Tuesday and Eila will have a busy day with four different appointments: 1) an ultrasound to check on the size of the tumor, to see if the chemo is beginning to shrink it or if it has grown (hopefully not); 2) an echocardiogram to make sure her heart is strong enough for the new, third drug; 3) week three of chemo; and 4) meeting with a nephrologist (kidney specialist) to find out what life will be like with less than one kidney.
We also learned today that Eila's tumor surgery is scheduled for September 25, which is also Annikka's fifth birthday. Hopefully we'll be able to make arrangements to pull off both of these important events simultaneously. Thank you all for keeping Eila in your thoughts and prayers, we are continually grateful for the wonderful network of family and friends we have surround us through this difficult time.
