Manhattan - part II

Sunday was another beautiful day, so we went uptown to Central Park and the zoo. Ran into Minnie and Mickey Mouse on the way.

How big is the park?

We also went on a carriage ride around Central Park.

And Annikka met "Big Toe" at FAO Schwarz (not that she has any idea what an ugly doll is, but he became her souvenir from the trip).

That night we enjoyed dinner with Hanne and Jack.

We ate at the Ethiopian restaurant where they had their first date (I really wanted ethiopian food while we were there, and they knew just the place to go). It was one of our more successful meals because Annikka decided that she liked one of the dishes on the vegetarian platter. She enjoyed it so much that another restaurant patron came up and asked if she could take Annikka's picture - not really sure why, maybe she'd never seen a little white girl enjoying ethiopian food? Unfortunately, I didn't also take her picture, so you'll just have to believe me that she ate it.

Before we left for home on Monday, we went to the American Museum of Natural History.

Eila was awake for the first 10 minutes.

This is what I heard, as we walked past window after window of displays.
"This [fill in the blank] was once alive, but now it's dead."
Guess that's what you get when you go to the history museum the day after you go to the zoo. :)

Luckily we had a direct flight home, JFK to PDX. There was some sleeping, and a lot of playing.

We had a really great time and made lots of memories, although it was definitely the kind of vacation that makes you feel like you need a vacation.
