Manhattan - part I

We started our trip to New York with a flight to Boston,

From March/April 2011

that we shared with the Portland Timbers (MLS soccer team).

Any one know who these guys are? (A little internet searching leads me to believe they are Kenny Cooper, James Marcelin, & Peter Lowry.) But what good sports they were to pose with our daughter.

Every adventure began and ended with a subway ride.

The first day was rainy, so we visited the Children's Museum of Manhattan.

And we saw Time Square that night - one benefit of keeping your kids on Pacific time is that you can keep more of a New York schedule.

Can you spot us on the giant tv screen? I'll give you a hint, look for Annikka's bright pink pants.

Saturday was a beautiful day and we spent the "morning" in a neighborhood park (we rented an apartment in Manhattan, just 3 blocks from the Empire State building).

Then, while Eila and Joel napped, Annikka and I got our nails done on Madison Ave.

It was her first time getting her nails painted (purple, of course), and she felt SO special.

That night everyone had a great time at Hanne and Jack's wedding.

Overheard on our flight from Portland to Boston

ANNIKKA: Mom, let me take your blood pressure.

DANA: (extends arm)

ANNIKKA: (squeezes Dana's elbow)

ANNIKKA's diagnosis: "It's sooooooo bloody."

Try this

We aren't having a lot of success convincing Eila to eat finger foods, but broccoli looked okay to her one afternoon ...

I guess we just have a couple of veggie girls, as you might remember from Annikka's eatin' broccoleheh episode.

From March/April 2011

Hmm, I don't know that she'll be interested in trying it again very soon.

The car

From March/April 2011

It was out again for the first time tonight, and Eila's "cruising" suddenly jumped to a whole new level!

Annikka was excited and ready to help, but I'm not sure I'm ready for our little baby to be walking at just 9 1/2 months.

Fur ball

As you may remember, Eila gets really excited around Oliver. Well, their relationship has changed some now that she can crawl.

From Jan/Feb2011

Don't get me wrong, she's a pretty good crawler now but Oliver would be able to stay away from her. However, he seems to know that he might as well give in and make everyone happy.

But he can only take so much of her rough love.

From Jan/Feb2011

Although Oliver's golden years aren't nearly as relaxing as his early ones, we couldn't ask for much more from him. :)

Eila's growing

From Jan/Feb2011

For those keeping track, here are the stats from Eila's nine month appointment:

weight = 16 lb, 14 oz (17 percentile)
height = 27 1/4 in (41 percentile)
head = 45 cm (79 percentile)

I can't believe we're at nine months already, it's gone by so fast! Eila's a cute little package, and such a joy to be with. She's crawling every where these days and LOVES standing/cruising (a little worried that she'll be all out walking in no time). She says and waves bye-bye (officially her first word) and daycare tells us she says "all done". She loves Annikka, except when big sis invades her personal space, and Oliver, who has no personal space as far as Eila's concerned. :)
