Because Annikka likes to "unpack", Uncle Aaron thought she could be in charge of the name exchange for the Larsen Christmas. As you can see, she worked hard on the list so check your email for your name.

Another word
Annikka is working on expanding her vocabulary every day. While we are still hoping for her to add mommy and daddy to the mix, last week daycare surprised us with her latest addition...
Pretty cute, huh?
Pretty cute, huh?
Winter begins...
And with it comes the rain, but luckily Annikka has a great raincoat.
The rain has also brought the challenge of finding indoor activities to keep our active, curious little girl happy and busy. So far we've been playing in boxes:
Climbing on Dad:
Working on art projects:
And playing chase:
Annikka really loves being the one chased. This is her "Dad's about to grab and tickle me" face.
Last weekend she went to her friend Mika's first birthday party.

Random Update
Joel here.
Just sitting here on a rainy Sunday morning downing some coffee, surfing the web, looking at the same old websites. I thought I'd take a break from those subversive activities and give everyone a sampling of some of the things Annikka is doing these days. None of them are particularly unusual or exceptional, but they sure are fun for us.
Words she's saying:
Hi
Shoes (thanks Grandpa)
Bye-bye (with a floppy wave)
Cheese (she loves cheese; when she says "cheese" she points to her mouth)
More (accompanied the sign for "more," which is pointing to the palm of your hand -- daycare taught her that)
All-done
Dog (she loves pointing to dogs at the park and at the farmer's market)
This (points)
That (points)
Uh-oh (definitely because of day-care).
She is talking a LOT, but we can't understand most of the other things that come out of her mouth. Hopefully it's nothing too urgent.
Things she's doing:
Annikka has pretty much stopped crawling. Over course of the last week, it's become all walking all the time. She likes to play "chase," which is a lot more complicated than it sounds: she walks away from us, we chase her, she giggles like a maniac, we grab her, she squeals. It's a lot of fun.
She grabs her diaper and says "this" when she needs a change. We have no idea how she learned that, but it's helpful.
When she eats, she tries to put as much food in her hands as she can. I'm guessing it's a day care thing: I think the kids take each other's food a lot, and since Annikka is the smallest kid in her room, she probably has to play a lot of defense. Either that or she's a glutton.
Dana's cousin Meredith gave Annikka some blocks for her birthday, and Annikka has learned to stack them. She can make a tower six blocks high. What she really loves, though, is knocking down the huge towers that Dana and I make for her.
She LOVES hugging, and rolling around on, the cats:
... and the cats are remarkably compliant, especially Anani.
She LOVES playing with her greatpapa's tape measure:
(Annikka's greatpapa is Dana's papa, Dana's mother's father)
She likes climbing stairs:
She loves carrying around the pumpkin she decorated for Halloween:
And she loved passing out candy to trick-or-treaters:
She really likes looking at and interacting with people in general.

Late October update
| From October2008 |
Last week was Annikka's first full week as a "wobbler". Her days are now very full of activities and active kids, but only one nap (luckily it is much longer than her old daycare naps). We're pretty active when we get home too, trying to squeeze in as much snacking and playing as possible before bedtime.

Annikka can knock them down faster than Dad can stack them.

She's learning to brush her hair, although you can see there still isn't much to brush on top.
| From October2008 |
We went to Portland to see my Aunt Sue, cousin Melissa, and her daughter Tate (2 1/2). They were here visiting Meredith and Pete, and helping to start preparing for their baby's arrival in March.

Why would anyone outlaw dancing?
So, Joel finally convinced me to create my own account to be able to post updates...
Although she hasn't quite mastered walking yet, Annikka likes to dance (to the right song).

Aaaannnnd ... she's OFF!
Make note of what you were doing today at 5:30pm Pacific time, because this is what happened:
After several days of taking an awkward step or two, Annikka finally walked. For real.
As you might be able to tell, Annikka was simultaneously excited and anxious to be walking without her parents' fingers.
So, now what do we do?
