Random Update

Joel here.

Just sitting here on a rainy Sunday morning downing some coffee, surfing the web, looking at the same old websites. I thought I'd take a break from those subversive activities and give everyone a sampling of some of the things Annikka is doing these days. None of them are particularly unusual or exceptional, but they sure are fun for us.

Words she's saying:

Hi
Shoes (thanks Grandpa)
Bye-bye (with a floppy wave)
Cheese (she loves cheese; when she says "cheese" she points to her mouth)
More (accompanied the sign for "more," which is pointing to the palm of your hand -- daycare taught her that)
All-done
Dog (she loves pointing to dogs at the park and at the farmer's market)
This (points)
That (points)
Uh-oh (definitely because of day-care).

She is talking a LOT, but we can't understand most of the other things that come out of her mouth. Hopefully it's nothing too urgent.

Things she's doing:

Annikka has pretty much stopped crawling. Over course of the last week, it's become all walking all the time. She likes to play "chase," which is a lot more complicated than it sounds: she walks away from us, we chase her, she giggles like a maniac, we grab her, she squeals. It's a lot of fun.

She grabs her diaper and says "this" when she needs a change. We have no idea how she learned that, but it's helpful.

When she eats, she tries to put as much food in her hands as she can. I'm guessing it's a day care thing: I think the kids take each other's food a lot, and since Annikka is the smallest kid in her room, she probably has to play a lot of defense. Either that or she's a glutton.

Dana's cousin Meredith gave Annikka some blocks for her birthday, and Annikka has learned to stack them. She can make a tower six blocks high. What she really loves, though, is knocking down the huge towers that Dana and I make for her.

She LOVES hugging, and rolling around on, the cats:

... and the cats are remarkably compliant, especially Anani.

She LOVES playing with her greatpapa's tape measure:

She likes climbing stairs:

She loves carrying around the pumpkin she decorated for Halloween:

And she loved passing out candy to trick-or-treaters:

She really likes looking at and interacting with people in general.
