Dana and Annikka visited our friend Kirsi Peltomäki and her son, Mika, today. Kirsi is from Finland. Kirsi's mother (also from Finland) has been stateside for the past couple of months while Mika's father (Jillian, an American from Detroit by way of New Mexico) is in the Netherlands. (Not a lot of English being spoken in the Peltomäki household.)
We met Kirsi at a party about a year ago. Dana was not pregnant then, but we kind of knew it was a possibility. After discovering that Kirsi is a Finn, we grilled her on potential Finnish baby names. After the party she sent us websites with tons of potential names. We didn't talk to her after that, but in a fortunate coincidence, she and Jillian showed up in our birthing class about five months later. Weird, huh?
Mika was born exactly four weeks after Annikka. He was about two or three weeks old when we met him. At that time, Annikka was much bigger, but other than that they looked remarkably similar. (Dana and Kirsi speculated that it was their common Finnish ancestry.)
Well, they're looking less and less alike:
Dana and I often wonder whether a neutral third party (like, you know, someone from Switzerland) can tell that Annikka is girl. I'll bet Kirsi and Jillian don't think about that; as you can see, Mika is obviously a dude.
And he's an awfully cute dude.
Spelled
Grandma and Grandpa came up on Saturday so Dana and I could have a night on the town.
That was really nice of them. Dana and I went to see Into the Wild. (It's good.)
Flying
And to wrap up tonight's post, here are some pictures of Annikka flying:
It's her new thing.
Her old thing is sitting in the corner:
Lookin' pretty casual there, Annikka.
